Which HDFC statements work

The retail netbanking account statement PDF, downloaded from HDFC NetBanking.

verified Verified against a real 150-transaction retail netbanking statement with a 100% balance-chain pass.

Scanned or photographed statements are not supported for any bank yet — they are images and need OCR. Native e-statements downloaded from netbanking are also more accurate, because the text is already in the file rather than being guessed from pixels.

How to download your HDFC statement as PDF

  1. Sign in to HDFC NetBanking and open the account.
  2. Go to the account statement view and choose the period you need.
  3. Download it as a PDF e-statement rather than exporting the on-screen table.
  4. Drop the PDF into TieOut; enter the PDF password if the file asks for one.

Menu labels move around as banks redesign their portals. If yours does not match, look for “statement”, “e-statement” or “account statement” and choose PDF rather than Excel or CSV — the PDF is the authoritative document, and TieOut validates against the balances printed on it.

What TieOut does with HDFC's layout

A PDF has no table in it. It stores text fragments at x/y coordinates, and the neat columns you see on screen are visual alignment. Rebuilding rows means knowing what this particular bank does — and HDFC does the following.

  • HDFC repeats its header row, so the column layout is read from the header text when it is present and falls back to measured x-ranges when a page drops it. That covers both the common statement variants without you choosing anything.
  • The retail statement and the ENet corporate statement carry the same page-one fingerprint — both simply say HDFC BANK — so bank detection alone cannot tell them apart. TieOut runs both profiles against the file and keeps whichever extraction validates, rather than guessing from the letterhead.
  • Statement-summary blocks (Closing Bal, Dr Count, Cr Count) are skipped explicitly. They sit in the same columns as real transactions and are the usual source of phantom rows in a generic PDF-to-Excel conversion.

HDFC statement columns

ColumnsDate | Narration | Chq./Ref. No. | Value Dt | Withdrawal Amt. | Deposit Amt. | Closing Balance
Date formatdd/mm/yy

HDFC ENet (corporate)

verified The wholesale/ENet statement is a separate layout and is supported as its own profile — Date | Transaction Description | Chq/Ref. No | Value Date | Debit Amount | Credit Amount | Closing Balance, dates DD-Mon-YYYY, negative balances with a leading minus. Because it shares a page-one fingerprint with the retail statement, both profiles are run against the file and whichever extraction validates is the one you get.

How the HDFC conversion is checked

Every extracted row must satisfy balance = previous balance + credit − debit, and the last balance must equal the closing balance printed on your statement. Rows that break the chain are flagged rather than dropped, so a fully green table is provable evidence that no transaction was missed. That is running-balance validation, and it runs on your file rather than on someone else's test set.

Import a HDFC statement into Tally Prime

Export as Tally XML, create the bank ledger in Tally under the same name you exported with, then go to Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers and select the file. Rows arrive as Receipt and Payment vouchers with stable IDs, so re-importing the same statement updates rather than duplicates. The full path, including the two things that usually go wrong, is in how to import a bank statement into Tally Prime.

Is it safe to convert a HDFC statement online?

It depends entirely on where the file goes. Almost every online converter uploads your PDF to its server, which puts your account number, balances and every transaction into someone else's storage under their retention policy. TieOut does not upload the file at all — and you can prove it in ten seconds by switching off your Wi-Fi and converting anyway. More on what different converters actually do with your statement.

HDFC Bank conversion FAQs

How do I convert an HDFC bank statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement as a PDF from HDFC NetBanking, drop it into TieOut and export as .xlsx or CSV. Parsing happens in your browser, so the statement is never uploaded, and each row is validated against the printed running balance before export.

What is the password for an HDFC bank statement PDF?

HDFC sets it in the email or SMS that delivered the statement, and the rule differs by delivery channel — check that message rather than guessing. Whatever it is, enter it when TieOut prompts: the PDF is decrypted locally in your browser and the password is never sent anywhere.

Does TieOut work with HDFC ENet corporate statements?

Partly. The ENet statement table itself parses, but payment-advice tables appended to the end of the document still leak into the extraction. Those rows break the balance chain and are flagged rather than silently kept, so you can spot and remove them — but ENet is experimental, unlike the retail statement.

Can I import an HDFC statement into Tally Prime?

Yes. Export as Tally XML and import from Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers, with the bank ledger already created under the same name you exported with. Vouchers carry stable IDs, so a re-import updates rather than duplicates.
