Which SBI statements work

The “Statement of Account” PDF downloaded from OnlineSBI or YONO (the file usually arrives named AccountStatement_… .pdf).

verified Verified against a real 847-transaction netbanking statement — every row passed the balance chain, and it is the largest statement tested against any profile.

Scanned or photographed statements are not supported for any bank yet — they are images and need OCR. Native e-statements downloaded from netbanking are also more accurate, because the text is already in the file rather than being guessed from pixels.

How to download your SBI statement as PDF

  1. Sign in to OnlineSBI (personal banking) or the YONO app.
  2. Open Account Statement for the account you need and choose the date range.
  3. Pick PDF as the format and download — this is a native e-statement, not a scan, which is what the parser needs.
  4. Drop the file into TieOut. If it is password-protected, enter the password when prompted; decryption happens in your browser.

Menu labels move around as banks redesign their portals. If yours does not match, look for “statement”, “e-statement” or “account statement” and choose PDF rather than Excel or CSV — the PDF is the authoritative document, and TieOut validates against the balances printed on it.

What TieOut does with SBI's layout

A PDF has no table in it. It stores text fragments at x/y coordinates, and the neat columns you see on screen are visual alignment. Rebuilding rows means knowing what this particular bank does — and SBI does the following.

  • SBI does not repeat the column header on transaction pages, so there is no header row to read the layout from after page one. TieOut assigns columns by measured x-position instead, which is why a converter that only looks for headers loses everything after the first page.
  • The transaction-type label — WDL TFR, CEMTEX DEP, TO TRANSFER — prints on the line above the dated row, while the rest of the narration continues on the lines below it. Both halves are attributed back to the right transaction by line gap, so the description you get is the whole description.
  • A second SBI layout exists on some channels with a real header row (Txn Date | Value Date | Description | Ref No./Cheque No. | Branch Code | Debit | Credit | Balance). Both profiles are run against the file and whichever extracts more valid rows wins, so you do not have to know which one you have.

How the SBI conversion is checked

Every extracted row must satisfy balance = previous balance + credit − debit, and the last balance must equal the closing balance printed on your statement. Rows that break the chain are flagged rather than dropped, so a fully green table is provable evidence that no transaction was missed. That is running-balance validation, and it runs on your file rather than on someone else's test set.

Import a SBI statement into Tally Prime

Export as Tally XML, create the bank ledger in Tally under the same name you exported with, then go to Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers and select the file. Rows arrive as Receipt and Payment vouchers with stable IDs, so re-importing the same statement updates rather than duplicates. The full path, including the two things that usually go wrong, is in how to import a bank statement into Tally Prime.

Is it safe to convert a SBI statement online?

It depends entirely on where the file goes. Almost every online converter uploads your PDF to its server, which puts your account number, balances and every transaction into someone else's storage under their retention policy. TieOut does not upload the file at all — and you can prove it in ten seconds by switching off your Wi-Fi and converting anyway. More on what different converters actually do with your statement.

State Bank of India conversion FAQs

How do I convert an SBI bank statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement as a PDF from OnlineSBI or YONO, then drop it into TieOut and export as .xlsx or CSV. The file is parsed inside your browser and never uploaded, and every row is checked against the statement’s running balance before you export, so you can see the extraction is complete.

Does the SBI statement password work in TieOut?

Yes. Password-protected SBI PDFs open normally — enter the password when prompted and the file is decrypted locally by your browser. The password is never transmitted, because there is no server to transmit it to.

Why do other converters lose SBI rows after page one?

Because SBI prints the column header only on the first page. Converters that derive the table layout from header text have nothing to work with on pages two onward and either drop those rows or push amounts into the wrong column. TieOut uses measured column positions for SBI instead of header text.

Can I import an SBI statement into Tally Prime?

Yes — export the statement as Tally XML and import it from Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers. Rows become Receipt and Payment vouchers with stable IDs, so re-importing the same statement will not duplicate entries.
